The Kingsford Invitational BBQ competition is Airing Sunday March 17, 2013!
Back in November when I was invited to the Kingsford Invitational BBQ competition, they told us that it would “probably air sometime near the spring.” Well, here we are! The show airs on the “Destination America” channel at 10 pm (ET).
If you aren’t familiar with what Kingsford charcoal is doing with the Invitational I’ll try to explain it briefly. Every BBQ competition has a winner. Kingsford has invited the winners from what they consider the most prestigious BBQ competitions to square off against one another for the ability to say they are the best of the best. It’s a pretty cool idea. If you want to read about the teams competing in the Kingsford Invitational check out this page.
One of the reasons why I’m so excited to watch the Kingsford Invitational is that there really was a small amount of people invited to watch. This means that I have a good shot at being in the background on TV! The above photo shows the results tent. You can see some of the guys from BBQ Pitmasters if you squint. This is where the teams gathered to see who won. In the background is where I was standing with other bloggers and food writers. I hope the camera pans my way at least once! Ha!
Kingsford took some extra time while we were at the Invitational and made videos of some of us “Kingsford VIP bloggers.” Just this week they released the videos. This is pretty funny! They asked me what I would make in the “One Bite Challenge.” Each competition team was asked to make a One Bite appetizer style dish with only 5 ingredients. Here’s my video:
Just recently the editor of Grilling.com (Kingsford’s Grilling Website) contacted me and asked if I wanted to take part in a VIP blogger version of the One Bite Challenge. I gladly accepted! I believe this week or next week our entries will be posted on the Grilling.com website.
In the video above I was totally put on the spot and had no clue what they were going to ask me. I told the camera and producer that for my 5 ingredient One Bite Challenge I’d do a mini bacon cheddar jalapeno stuffed slider! Seemed like a good idea. Then I was working on my submission for Grilling.com’s blogger challenge. I started counting ingredients: bun, beef, cheddar, jalapeno, bacon. Uh oh. That was 5 ingredients already and I didn’t even get to douse it in Worcestershire sauce or sprinkle it with Montreal seasoning.
I don’t think we’re allowed to post our 5 ingredient One Bite Challenge blog posts yet since they haven’t been posted on Grilling.com. However, I’ll give you a hint at how I overcame the 5 ingredient limit: I found a new cheese that I have totally fallen in love with: Habanero cheddar cheese! Hey, it’s a cheese and counts as ONE ingredient! Yup, next week I’ll post my mini bacon habanero cheddar stuffed slider recipe. It’s a slider doused in Worcestershire sauce and it was really tasty.
So let’s all tune in to Destination America Sunday the 17th and check out the Kingsford Invitational. I’m excited to see how the production of the show turned out since I got to see it filmed. I also got to taste the competition team’s One Bite Challenge submissions so it will be cool to see how they prepared them. Next week I’ll post my One Bite Challenge slider submission recipe.
