Apple Pie Smoked Baked Beans

These Apple Pie Baked Beans are hands down the best bbq beans Ive ever tasted. If you make one side dish this Sumer this is the one!!

Equipment

  • 1 12" Cast Iron Skillet or dutch oven

Ingredients

  • 84 oz Baked Beans 3 cans
  • 8 oz Bacon
  • 1.5 oz Bourbon Optional Or Chicken Stock
  • 21 oz Apple Pie Filling 1 can
  • 1 Yellow Onion Diced
  • 2 Jalapeños Diced
  • 1 cup BBQ Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp BBQ Dry Rub
  • 2 tsp Dry Mustard
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks

Instructions

  • Saute chopped raw bacon in a large cast iron skillet until almost crispy then add in onions, jalapeños, cinnamon sticks, bbq dry rub and dry mustard. Keep cooking until the onions are softened. About 5 minutes then deglaze the pan with a shot of bourbon.
  • Add in the remaining ingredients and stir so everything is well combined in he skillet. Place the pan on the pellet grill and smoke at 300 degrees F for about 2 hours stirring occasionally.
  • Serve hot right of the smoker. If you need to hold the beans hot for a while cover the skillet with aluminum foil then wrap in a towel.

Notes

 
If you are traveling with the smoked baked beans don't make it in a skillet, instead use a 9x13 aluminum pan. It's light and you can leave it at the party. Use 2 or three pans since the dish is heavy so the pan doesn't bent. you can remove the other pans once you get it to the table.
You can keep leftovers refrigerated for up to five days. If you want to freeze the beans place them in a plastic quart or pint container with a lid. be sure to label and date the beans and they will keep for up to 6 months.
To Reheat the beans make sure they are thawed and add to a pan with a few tablespoons of water. simmer on low until the beans are hot.
