Grilled Turkey Burgers

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground Turkey
  • 1 Yellow Onion
  • 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Chipotles in Adobo Sauce
  • 8 slices Pepper Jack Cheese
  • 4 Burger Rolls

Additional Toppings (optional)

  • Southwest Ranch
  • Avocado
  • Sliced Tomato
  • Lettuce

Instructions

  • Puree the contents of the chiles in adobo can.
  • Dice sweet onion and add to a medium heat frying pan with olive oil. Sauté for about 30-45 minutes until the onions are dark in color.
  • Add 2 T of chiles in adobo puree and all of the diced onions to 1 lb of ground turkey.
  • Form 3 burgers.
  • Grill burgers over medium high direct heat for 5 minutes per side. Do not flip the burgers prior to 5 minutes or they will stick.
  • After 10 minutes of total grilling add a slice of cheese and grill for another 3-5 minutes.
  • Remove turkey burgers from the grill and top burger with any toppings you like. Enjoy.

Notes

Makes 4 1/4 pound Burgers
If you don't have a grill you can prepare these turkey burgers in a cast iron skillet over medium heat. You can also Air Fry the burgers for about 10 minutes at 400 degrees F. flipping after 5 minutes.
If you don't like spicy turkey burgers omit the chipotle and use bell peppers cooked with the onions. you can add a tsp of liquid smoke or Worcestershire to beef up the smoky flavor.
Make sure to have a spray bottle with water close by while grilling. You can use it to spray the grill if you get any flair ups.
