Grilled Cheese on the Grill
w/ Sliced Beer Brats and Diced Jalapeno Peppers

Grilled cheese on the grill are simply amazing. You get the buttery crispy bread that you normally get with pan fried "grilled" cheese but you also get some of that amazing charcoal smoke flavor. I was thinking of ways to make standard grilled cheese a little bit better and I thought to add jalapeno peppers and sliced beer bratwurst! This makes for a quick and really tasty meal.

The first thing you need when you grill a grilled cheese sandwich is a nice artisan loaf of bread. If you aren't up for making your own (I don't blame you), try to find a high end grocery store with a nice bakery. They will have one for sure. I like the round loaves.

I shredded a pile of medium cheddar cheese and Colby Jack cheese. I then diced some jalapeno pepper slices (from the jar).

We all know how to grill brats. I won't even go there today. After they cool down a bit slice them thin.

Slice the bread to your desired thickness and butter it heavily. Don't be shy here, trust me.

Place the shredded cheese on the bread and layer the bratwurst slices evenly on top of the cheese. Add some of the diced jalapeno peppers and then top with some more cheese. It's time to head to the grill!

For grilling the grilled cheese sandwich you want a medium or medium low heat. Make sure it isn't too hot or you'll burn the bread without melting the cheese. It's no big deal if you have to wait a few extra minutes until the grill cools down.

Put the sandwiches right over direct heat. Keep a careful eye on them as you can burn them easily after only a few minutes. Check often and if your bread is burning move the sandwich over indirect heat to melt the cheese completely.

Oh look at this sweet thing. The grilled Italian bread is crunchy and buttery. The jalapenos give a wonderful spicy flavor on top of the gooey cheeses and beer brats. Yeah I really enjoyed this one!
