How to Make Grilled Shrimp Skewers
These Grilled Shrimp Skewers with Hoisin BBQ Sauce are one of my absolute favorite grilled appetizers too serve at summer cookouts.
The sweet and spicy hoisin glaze is the perfect compliment to the smoky grilled shrimp skewers

- 1 lb Shrimp Raw, Peeled & Deviened (Tail-on)
- 1 tbsp BBQ Dry Rub
- 2 Limes cut in half for grilling
- 1 tbsp Avocado Oil
Hoisin BBQ Sauce
- ¼ cup Hoisin Sauce
- ¼ cup Sweet Thai Chili Sauce
- 2 tbsp Sriracha
- 1 tbsp Lime Juice About ½ Lime
- 1 tsp Sesame Oil
- ½ tsp Chinese Five Spice
Optional Garnishes
- Chili Threads
- Toasted Sesame Seeds
- Chopped Parsley
- Korean Chili Flakes
Grilling Instructions
- Soak the bamboo skewers for at least 1 hour before you skewer the shrimp.
- Place 2 raw shrimp down on your work surface so that they are intertwined. Place the skewer through the center of the shrimp just above the tail so that the skewer goes through each shrimp twice holding the shrimp in place. (See Video Above)
- Brush the shrimp with avocado oil then season with dry rub on both sides
- Prepare the Hoisin BBQ sauce by combining all ingredient in a bowl and whisking until smooth. set aside
- Heat up your grill to between 375-400 degrees F
- Once grill has come to temp place the shrimp over indirect heat and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side. After flipping the first time brush the hoisin bbq sauce on the shrimp skewers.
- Once the Grilled Shrimp Skewers are fully cooked remove them fron the grill.
- Optional- Garnish with toasted sesame seeds, chopped parsley, chili threads and korean chili flakes
Grilled Shrimp Skewers Cooking Tips
- Keep the grilling temperature consistent. You don't need to grill shrimp at super high temperatures.
- Spray the grill grates before placing the shrimp on the grill to prevent sticking.
- Keep the grill temp between 375-400 degrees F and the shrimp will come out perfect.
- Once the shrimp are on the grill don't touch them for at least 4 minutes. this will also prevent sticking.
- Soak the wooden skewers for a few hours in water before grilling so they won't burn on the grill.
- Grill a few limes along with the shrimp to add a charred citrus flavor and garnish.

serving size is ¼ pound of shrimp with 2 tbsp of sauce.
