These Crispy Air Fryer Pasta Chips have gone viral on TikTok and for good reason.
This Southwest version served with my Southwestern Ranch dipping sauce takes this trend to a whole new level.
This recipe is super easy to make and can be done in your air fryer or conventional oven.
These take less than 30 minutes to make and will be a big hit with everyone who tries them
Viral Air Fryer Pasta Chips
I was making a Southwest Pasta Salad With shrimp and had some leftover cooked pasta that needed to be used up.
After seeing a bunch of people making these pasta chips on TikTok I knew I wanted to put my spin on this viral trend.
You can use any cooked pasta you like but I used Farfalle (bowtie pasta). Ziti, penne or large shells are all great options
Ingredient List
- Farfalle Pasta, Uncooked
- Avocado Oil
- Cotija Cheese
- Cilantro, Fresh Chopped
- Taco Seasoning
Cooking Instructions
- Boil pasta in salted water for 8-10 minutes until fully cooked, Strain and dry completly. Add pasta to a large bowl then toss with avocado oil and seasoning.
- Spread pasta out on the trays and place in the air fryer to cook for about 15 minutes shaking and turning occasionally every few minutes. You want to cook them as long as possible without burning them for maximum crispiness.
- Once the pasta chips are crispy toss with fresh chopped cilantro and cotija cheese and a sqeeze of fresh lime. Serve with dipping suace of choice.
Tips and Variations
Storage: After cooking the chips season immediately then let them cool completely before storing in a plastic bag or sealed container. The chips will stay crispy for about 5 -7 days before they start to get stale.
Pasta: Salt the water while cooking the pasta then drain and pat dry. Be sure not to overcook the pasta or it will tear apart when tossing with the seasonings.
Seasonings: You can season the chips however you like. I used Spicy Dan O's seasoning but cajun or taco seasoning would both work great.
Oven: To make this recipe in the oven simply follow the same instructions but place the pasta chips on a sheet pan spread out and bake for 15-20 minutes moving them around occasionally until crispy.
Lime: It kills me that I didn't have any limes in the fridge when I made this recipe so please do yourself a favor and give these pasta chips a squeeze of lime after they're finished cooking.
Frequently Asked Questions
They really do get super crispy. Just make sure to spread out the pasta and not overcrowd the pan. Move the pasta chips around every few minutes and let them get as brown as you can without burning them.
My southwest Ranch is great but you could also dip the pasta chips in salsa, sour cream, guacamole.
I have used both the basket and the tray style air fryer and both have their strengths. For this recipe I used My Instant Vortex Air Fryer Oven because you can spread out the chips to cook more evenly.
They take about 15 minutes but this will vary from air fryer to air fryer. Keep and Eye on them and make sure to let them cool for 5 minutes for them to really crispy.
