Are you looking for a unique dessert to serve your guests next time you have a cookout or get-together at home?

Then bacon-wrapped Oreos might be precisely the recipe that you are looking for.

This smoky, sweet, and delicious treat may sound strange, but the flavor combination is quite good. You are probably thinking, why on Earth would I put thick-sliced bacon around my Oreo cookies, a treat that is near sheer perfection on its own?

Who Invented Bacon-Wrapped Oreos?

You might be wondering where this idea even came from in the world. You already know the answer to that one…social media.

Other than trending on social media, it is unclear where the idea of the smoked bacon-wrapped Oreo originated. A deep-fried version was served at the Orange County Fair in California in 2012, and the Mayans were wrong because the world didn’t end.

Ingredients for Bacon-Wrapped Oreos

  • Bacon: I recommend thin-cut bacon for this recipe because we want the bacon to cook as quickly as possible.
  • Oreo Cookies: I used double-stuffed Oreos because who doesn’t love more icing? Classic or flavored Oreos will also work in a pinch.
  • Dry Rub: I like to use a dry rub to add a hint of spicy, smoky flavor to complement the salty and sweet.
  • Cooking Spray: just a little bit of food lube to ensure the rub sticks to the bacon.

How to Make Bacon-Wrapped Oreos

So, what do you need to make a batch of bacon-wrapped Oreos at home? Not much! You will need a package (or two) of Double Stuffed Oreos, your favorite barbecue dry rub (sweet and spicy are preferred), and some slices of thick-cut bacon.

  1. You should refrigerate your Oreos for about an hour before you wrap them in bacon.
  2. The bacon strips must be cut in half so each piece of bacon will wrap two cookies.
  3. After your Oreos are wrapped in bacon, give them a light spray of cooking oil so your barbecue rub has something to stick to.
  4. Now you are ready for the smoker! Put your bacon-wrapped Oreos on a 275-degree smoker for approximately one hour or until your bacon is cooked through.
  5. Do not eat your Oreos directly off of the smoker, or you won’t have any taste buds left to enjoy them! Let the cookies sit for at least five minutes to cool down a bit before serving.

The cream in the cookies will be crazy hot when they first come off the smoker, so please let them cool before you indulge. They are worth the wait! The cookies and bacon will be slightly soft when hot, but they will crisp up again as the cookies cool down.
