Bacon Wrapped Hotdog Recipe
Can anything be wrapped in bacon and stuffed with cheese? Absolutely!
This bacon wrapped hot dog recipe is one of the easiest things you can throw on a grill and a great option if you are new to grilling or just enjoy cooking up the classics.
This recipe really is as simple as grabbing a pack of hotdogs, some cheddar cheese, and bacon.
The best part is, you can enjoy them all year long. There is no need to wait for Summer to enjoy a hot dog; as long as you are caving one, make one ... or 5, because these are so good you will definitely want more than one!
Ingredients needed to make Hotdogs wrapped in Bacon
Hot dogs. For this recipe, I used 8 4oz Jumbo Beef Hot Dogs. The average person might eat 2 hot dogs each making this a recipe that serves 4. However, you know your eaters, so double this recipe if needed.
Cheese and Bacon. You can't have a bacon and cheddar hot dog without the main ingredients. I used 8 slices of cheddar cheese and 16 slices of my favorite bacon.
Buns. I like using potato roll hot dog buns, but really, you can use your favorite type of hot dog bun from the grocery store or whatever you have on hand.
How to Make Bacon Wrapped Hotdogs
Butterfly the hot dog. Make a slit in the hot dog all the way from end to end so you can butterfly it open but don't cut all the way through.
Add cheese and bacon. Fold the cheddar cheese into thin strips and line the inside of the hot dog with cheese. Wrap each dog with 2 slices of bacon, making sure to cover the dog completely. secure bot ends with toothpicks
Cook. Place the bacon-wrapped hot dogs on the pellet grill and cook for about 40 minutes at 325 degrees F. until the bacon is crispy.
Enjoy. Serve with your choice of sauces and buns.
Recipe Tips, Ticks, and Variations
Serving a crowd. Looking to tailgate or have a backyard BBQ or party with these tasty dogs? Make a bunch of them and serve them up in an aluminum tin. No need for anything fancy, not even a bun. Toss them out there and let everyone top off their own hotdog.
Condiments and sauces. Depending on how you or others enjoy a hot dog, you can serve these hot dogs up with ketchup, BBQ sauce, mustard, spicy mustard, hot sauce, and more. The possibilities are truly endless.
Toppings. If you are a toppings person, consider adding pickles, onions, pepperoncini, sport peppers, or even relish.
Leftover hot dogs. Store any leftover hotdogs in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can reheat bacon-wrapped hot dogs in the oven or air fryer at 350 degrees F. for about 6-10 minutes until warm.
Make it Dairy Free and/or Gluten Free. Make these hot dogs dairy free by swapping out the cheese for dairy-free cheese and gluten-free by using a gluten-free hot dog bun option.
Vegetarian hot dogs. Looking for a vegetarian option? Now, I've never tried these and don't think I ever will, but you can make this same recipe with veggie dogs and veggie bacon.
Side Dish Pairings for Stuffed Hotdogs
One thing I love about hot dogs is how seamlessly they pair with other classic foods like Pellet Grill Corn On The Cob, Classic Southern Coleslaw, Best Steakhouse Wedge Salad, Pellet Grill Smoked Baked Beans, and Chilled Tortellini Pasta Salad With Italian Meats!
Can you make bacon-wrapped hotdogs in the oven?
If it is Summer, cooking hotdogs on the grill is definitely the preferred method.
However, if you are out of propane or it's the middle of Winter and you are craving a juicy hotdog, don't sweat.
You can make these hotdogs in the oven just as easily as making them outside.
Prepare your hotdogs the same way and place them on a broiler pan.
Bake in the oven at 450 degrees Fahrenheit your hotdogs for about 10 minutes until the bacon is crispy and the hot dog has a nice sweat going.
What is a hot dog wrapped in bacon called?
Depending on where you are from, you might call it a bacon-wrapped hotdog or a "danger dog."
The term "danger dog" originated in Mexico and is a bacon wrapped hot dog. The term has made its way to Los Angeles as well and is a trendy street-vendor food.
Where is the bacon-wrapped hot dog from?
As much as I'd like to take credit for being the genius that thought to wrap bacon around a hotdog, I am not.
Truth is, nobody actually knows who the genius was that wrapped the first hot dog in bacon, but they are super-popular street food in Tijuana, Mexico.
If you ever find yourself in Tijuana, you've got to try one of their famous bacon-wrapped hotdogs topped with corn, jalapeno, crema, and queso fresco.
How do you get bacon to stay on a hot dog?
If you don't have toothpicks in the house, buy some when you are at the store because you are going to need them!
Toothpicks will help secure the bacon to the hotdog and keep it from unraveling during the cooking process.
Does Costco sell bacon wrapped hot dogs?
Cooking for a crowd and looking to cut corners to save yourself some time?
Check your local Costco as they might be selling the Angus Beef Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs.
Now, these hot dogs aren't stuffed with cheddar, so you will have to add it, but this might save you some time if you are in a pinch.

I don’t own a pellet grill, how would you cook these on a propane grill? Can it be done
Frank Campanella
Sure, Only turn on half of the burners so you have direct and indirect cooking zones. Then grill the dogs on the indirect side.
