Zesty Onion Ring Sauce

by Frank Campanella Leave a Comment

You can eat onion rings without the sauce of course, but they are never going to be as good as they are with a zesty onion ring sauce!

Do you know what takes golden brown, fresh out of the hot oil (or air fryer) onion rings to the next level?

The thing that you need that keeps you coming back for more? That’s right! Onion rings just aren’t the same without onion ring sauce.

Homemade Onion Ring Sauce

Sure, you can go to the store and buy onion ring sauce, or you can beg the local Burger King to throw you a few extra packets of sauce.

You could also just make some ring sauce at home, and it will be even better, and you will never have to beg for extra sauce again!

Onion ring sauce is not just for onion rings; far from it. While it is, of course, a delicious spicy dipping sauce for onion rings or onion petals, there are lots of things that are made even better with this sauce recipe.

You can put this sauce on hot dogs, sandwiches, wraps, and even salads. It’s great for dipping too!

You can dip smoked chicken wings, Hot Dogs, mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, french fries, sweet potato fries, and celery in this sauce too.

How to Make Spicy Dipping Sauce

You don’t need much to make this onion ring sauce, and you probably already have everything that you need at home.

This is a mayonnaise-based sauce, so you will need mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish, pickle juice, honey, cajun seasoning, and smoked paprika.

If you don’t have pickle juice, you can use the same amount of white vinegar in its place.

If you want your sauce to be a bit spicier, you can add a little more horseradish. Be sure to taste test of course.

Whisk all of your ingredients together in a small bowl, and you will have your very own supply of zesty onion ring sauce!

As mentioned, if you like your ring sauce with a kick, you can add more horseradish to the recipe. You can also add a small amount of cayenne pepper to the sauce.

Zesty Onion Ring Sauce Additions and Substitutions

Looking for a little bit of a sweet and sour twist for your sauce? Consider adding a few drops of lemon juice.

Other flavorful spices that you can add to change the flavor profile are small amounts of oregano. You could also add salt and pepper to taste.

Transfer the onion ring sauce to an airtight container or a squeeze bottle and store it in the refrigerator.

For the best flavor, you will need to let your sauce marinate in the refrigerator for a while. Three hours or overnight is best to let the sauce chill down and give the flavors a chance to come together.

You can use this same batch of sauce safely for up to three weeks. After that, it’s time to make a fresh batch.

Now that so many people have air fryers there are lots of onion rings, french fries, blooming onions, and chicken wings being made at home.

That’s great, but you want to have your favorite sauces to go with them. Now you can check zesty onion ring sauce off of your list of recipes to learn to make at home!
